Set in Edinburgh in the 1990s, Irvine Welsh’s first novel Trainspotting loosely follows the various escapades of a group of discontented young wasters who spend their days trying to escape their flawed and mediocre existences with the help of, for the most part; “the life-giving and life taking elixir”(heroin).
